Bulgarian Citizenship By Investment 2021
The Bulgarian Citizenship Programme at a glance
Established in 2009, the Bulgarian Investor Programme for Residence and Citizenship, also marketed as the Bulgarian Immigrant Investor Programme, gives third country investors the ability to obtain Bulgarian (EU) residency and citizenship by investment in government bonds.
The programme was crated to attract direct foreign investment and stimulate interest in the country as a cross-border business destination. As with many of the other EU investment citizenship programmes, the Bulgarian offering features a two-step application process – first for residency, and then for citizenship:
-
Bulgarian Residency Process: The residency application process takes around 5 to 6 months to complete, and requires making an eligible investment of no less than €512,000 in government guaranteed Bulgarian bonds with a low yield rate.
-
Bulgarian Citizenship Process: Once residency status has been held for a period of 12 months, the immigrant investor can apply for Bulgarian citizenship, provided that the initial eligible investment of €512,000 has been doubled to €1,024,000. The process for obtaining a Bulgarian investment passport typically takes 2 years.
